About FIU Taekwondo

FIU Taekwondo was started in the Spring of 2011 by Chris Alvarez and Lino Capelli. Many other universities have Taekwondo clubs that compete at the National Collegiate Championships every year.  Now its FIU's Turn! Chris and Lino wanted to bring their years of Taekwondo experience and their degrees in Sports Science/Coaching to FIU in order to provide an outlet for serious competitors. In addition, they wanted to introduce the dynamic martial art to the FIU student body and get people interested in the world's most popular martial art.

Our club is for all students. It does not matter if you have been practicing Taekwondo all your life, or you are a student who just wants to get fit while reaping the benefits of a martial art. The FIU Taekwondo Club welcomes all members and provides  a friendly atmosphere for training.

Members of the club also get to take advantage of our belt promotion exams. FIU Taekwondo Instructors are all certified by the Kukkiwon (World governing body of Taekwondo) as registered black belts. They can promote students all the way to the rank of black belt. We have one promotion test at the end of the semester. However, students who put in a large amount of hours during one semester may be eligible to rank up twice.
